The Boiling Mud Pools are off a side track on Waiotapu Loop Road, a short distance from Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. This comes off Highway 5 at Waiotapu about 27km south of Rotorua and 55km north of Taupo.

The MacKays Crossing entrance off SH1 gives access to Whareroa Beach and surrounding dunes, picnic areas, walking, cycling and horseriding trails, the Tramway Museum, WWII Marines displays, several wetlands and the kahikatea forest remnant. Opening hours: 8am till dusk

Nga Manu Nature Reserve
Nga Manu is open daily from 10am to 5pm every day of the year excluding Christmas Day. Bird feed-out tours 11am daily. Eel feeding is at 2pm daily. Family (2 adults and children of that family)

Red Rocks Reserve
From the start point at the visitors centre it will take you up to 90 minutes to walk to the seal haul out, which is obvious as you will come up to two bits of obvious rocks with a clear gap which cars can get through over a small rise. read more
